Immobiliser & ECU Synchronisation
On a modern car the ECU, immobiliser, key and gearbox controller all have to agree before the engine will even crank. Replace one of them, corrupt its data, or reset it out of sync, and the car can sit there dead, no start, with not a single mechanical part actually at fault. We resynchronise the lot and get it running again, out of our workshop in Penrose, Auckland.
Need a New or Replacement Car Key?
After spare keys, replacement keys, or key cutting? That side of things lives on our dedicated key programming website: ExpressKeys.co.nz
Immobiliser System Diagnostics & Programming
At OBDTech, we specialise in advanced immobiliser repairs and synchronisation. This includes:
- ECU to immobiliser synchronisation
- TCU to immobiliser matching and linking (gearbox & transmission control units)
- Used or new ECU / BCM / BSI / CAS / FEM module adaptation
- Resetting immobiliser systems when all keys are lost
- Repairing immobiliser data corrupted by a flat or low car battery
- Bypass and disable solutions (case-by-case, never a generic dump)
Why Not Use Cheap Bypass Tools?
Where the factory method exists, that is the one we reach for first. Plenty of aftermarket "IMMO OFF" patches cause more problems than they fix: they disable security features the car actually relies on, throw fresh dashboard warnings, and upset keyless entry, ABS or the instrument cluster. A cheap shortcut today is a new fault next month.
We work with factory-level tools and data so every module ends up properly in sync, and the car stays stable and secure rather than limping along with half its security disabled.
Whether you have swapped an ECU, fitted a second-hand transmission, or lost every key and need the whole system matched from scratch, we have the tools and the experience to bring it back together properly.
ESL / ELV / EIS Steering Lock Repair & Bypass
One of the most common immobiliser-related failures in modern vehicles is the steering lock system, also known as ESL (Electronic Steering Lock), ELV (Electronic Steering Column Lock), or EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch).
Common issues include:
- Internal motor failure
- Worn or broken plastic gears
- No START, or no response at all when inserting the key or pressing start
- Steering stays locked even though the key is authorised
On a lot of these units it is the small plastic gears or the lock motor that give out while the electronics are still fine, so the right fix is rarely the whole assembly. We offer professional immo repair, immo reset, or immo bypass for faulty steering lock modules across a wide range of vehicles, including:
Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mini, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Smart, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Volkswagen, Bentley
Every solution is case-by-case, not a generic dump or an unsafe emulator, and the goal is always the same: full function restored without compromising the car's security. In most cases we can repair or safely bypass a failed steering lock module and have you back on the road quickly and correctly.
Best to call us directly to talk through your fault and vehicle model, since the right solution shifts depending on the hardware type and the exact fault condition.
The Locksmith Kill Scenario
We have seen it too many times. A mobile locksmith turns up with a basic tool, tries to program a key or reset the immobiliser, and suddenly the car shuts down completely. No crank. No comms. No start. Just pure panic.
We call it the "Locksmith Kill", and yes, it is a real thing. We have become known for recovering cars left non-starting after a failed key or immobiliser job. In most cases the ECU or immobiliser data has been corrupted, wiped, locked out, or coded incorrectly.
Plenty of people out there have excellent knowledge, some have just enough to get by, and a few leave behind more problems than they solve. It happens, and this is exactly the kind of mess we are set up to fix.
So if your car was running fine before someone "just tried a key" and now it is a brick, do not panic. We bring these back to life all the time, with the right tools, the right logic, and a lot of hard-won experience doing precisely this job.
